Quote #1: "We picked up fruits and vegetables that had been thrown away because they were partly spoiled"

- Francisco in his mind
Page #51

I think that this quote relates to what the Americans were like because they don't really care about food and just through it away if it is a little rotten. but his family cares about food and even if it is just a little rotten they will still eat it because that's all they have and they know the value of food. So I think this makes Americans look a little spoiled and that they can just buy more food if it is rotten.
I connect to this quote because when I have food I don't throw it away if it is a little rotten I just cut it off so I think that Francisco is right that they should still eat it. but I wouldn't dig it out of the trash or if it was all rotten. So I am kind of spoiled.

Question#1: What do you think Francisco thinks when he sees the food in the trash?

Quote #2: She used a 12 inch led pipe to roll the dough on a flat piece of board atop the wooden boxes served as our dinning table.
-Francisco

I think that this shows the hardships that the character had to face in the new life he started. It shows that they were to poor to afford a dinning table so they used some boxes. I think this would be uncomfortable to sit at the boxes to eat. Also that his mom used a 12 inch led pipe to roll the tortillas.
This relates to me because sometimes when we are at a restaurant and we get a table that is too small it is hard to eat. Also I have 5 people in my family and Francisco has 7 people in his family so it must be really crowded.

Question #2: Why do you think the farmers don't let them pick the cotton when it is wet?

Quote#1- I agree with you that americans really dont care what happens to their food but when someone goes out of their way to get something for you to eat america's reputation is just like what daniel said they dont really care about food and just throw it away if it is a little rotten.

Question#1- I think francisco is very surprised and shocked that people would throw perfectly good food in the trash. Some people in africa don't even have food and he should be happy he even has food. So I think francisco was pretty mad.

Quote#2- I totally agree with you daniel that it must of been very hard to go through what they went through and i agree that ythe character is was going through many hardships during that time period. I also noticed that the hardships came from the fact that they were very poor and they couldn't afford anything better to buy.

Question#2- Probably because it's not freshly picked cotton when its wet and the farmers don't want bad cotton. I'm not totally sure so i can't answer that perfectly.

1. I like the quote that you chose. Some people take fruits and vegetables for granted and they just throw it away. Americans waste a lot of things but some people need it more and they just end up throwing it away.

1a. I think that he is surprised of how it went to waste. I think that it shows more of how America is; some people may be carefree of their items and take things for granted.

2. I think that it is a good quote and it really shows how difficult life was for them. The family was really poor and it makes me feel more thankful for what I have.

2a. I guess its because the cotton is wet and wouldn't be good cotton.. The cotton would probably not be that fresh and it wouldn't be useful.

Quote#1-
I agree with part of your response to your quote like when you said that Americans don't care about throwing their food away but I don't agree on the part that you said Americans like I think it depends on the person if they are careless like that.

Question#1-
I think when Francisco sees the food in the trash he is shocked because since his family doesn't have money for food it's like shocking for him.

Quote#2-
I agree with how you said that it must be hard to deal with that and everything especially because it's a big family and so it must be harder

Question#2-
I think that because it might not be because it's not fresh and it probably goes bad so the farmers wouldn't want bad cotton.
