Quote#1:
I turned to Roberto and asked, "What's California like?"
- Franciso

This quote shows how little the kids know of California or the Us in general. I think that it shows what their life is like in mexico that they don't really know anything about the US that they just farm and pick cotton. I think this shows how curious Francisco is about California when his dad talks about it. My connection to this quote is that if I was going to a new place in Mexico I would be asking the same thing and I would be curious to see what it was like and a little scared to make it my new home.
Question: What do you think was going through Francisco mind when he asked his brother this?
Quote#2:
The next day I was on the playground wearing my new jacket and waiting for the first bell to ring when I saw Curtis coming at me like an angry bull.
- Francisco Jimenez

This quote relates to how the Americans treated Francisco at school Curtis who used to be his friend came up to him and beat him up over his lost jacket. This shows that the Americans were not very nice to Francisco and would lie to him and say they were his friends. This also relates o the hardships he faced at school when he got beat up. This quote relates to me because when I go to school I never get beat up and when I go to another country they don't act mean to us when we are there. I think it would be hard to go to a new school in another country when you don't know the language they are speaking.
Question: What would you do if you got in this kind of a situation?

Hey Daniel, nice job-
"What's California like?" ~Francisco
I totally agree with what you said- its really interesting how little they really know about Californa, and really just the whole US. I think you're right when you said that he's really curious, especially when his dad talks about it. I liked your connection, and I can relate to that as well.
Great job

Oops, I forgot the second one!
"The next day I was on the playground wearing my new jacket and waiting for the first bell to ring when I saw Curtis coming at me like an angry bull."

Again, I totally agree. Although, I think you might have meen a little off with one thing that you said- I'm pretty sure that Curtis and Francisco weren't friends... However, when you said that he faces hardships his whole life...
Question #1: I think he was just as you said- he was curious as to what was in California. He knoew he would be going there, and he wanted to know what his life would be like in California.
Q #2: I'm honestly not sure what I would do. If I were him (a 6-year-old-boy), I would've reacted the same. But as me, I probably would've just given him his jacket back, and maybe asked for a new one, it seemed to me like there were plenty of other jackets in the lost and found.
